Teeth whitening products are readily available these days. They’re formulated with your toothpaste, they come as strips, solutions and powders.

But they often contain some quite potent chemicals, potentially causing untold damage.

MySweetSmile has developed a range of products that don’t rely on peroxide-based formulas like traditional whitening products.

And when it comes to its Teeth Whitening Powder it uses the ingredient Pentasodium Triphosphate (PT), which aims to remove deep surface stains and prevent particles, such as those from coffee, wine or smoking, from building up on teeth post-treatment, potentially keeping teeth whiter for longer.

It also contains Strontium Chloride, which aims to prevent tooth sensitivity.

After rave reviews of the whitening powder, we put it to the test and here’s what we thought.

'The goal is to have a brighter smile which I'm getting'

I was on day three when someone said to me ‘your teeth look really white’, so I knew something must be working. I’d only had a couple of goes with the powder since it arrived. The taste is like something straight out of a dentist which was weirdly comforting. It feels like you should be using it on your teeth, even if it is rank.

I’ve never had an issue with my teeth. Sure, they could be a bit straighter. But I’ve never struggled with stained teeth, my teeth have always looked bright. Perhaps it’s because of my dark skin. I’ve always used whitening toothpaste even though I’m convinced it doesn’t do anything. But I was game to try MySweetSmile whitening powder and see what it can really do.

One week on and even though I wouldn’t say I’m catching up with Simon Cowell, my teeth feel whiter and cleaner. Perhaps that’s the four minutes extra that I’m brushing to apply the powder. One thing I wasn’t sure about was whether I could use it every day until I was at my desired brightness as it only says use a couple of times a week to keep topped up.

But it’s definitely doing something. I don’t have an instant Hollywood smile but that’s not what my goal is, the goal is to have a brighter smile which I’m getting.I’m going to keep using it and will most likely buy another pot.

'I'll pretty much do anything for whiter teeth'

As someone who is really impatient, I’m not going to lie – four minutes is a really long time to brush your teeth when you think about it. So with six combined minutes of brushing (with my normal whizz with the brush afterwards), I did wonder whether this at-home teeth whitening palaver was worth it.

Maths out of the way, with a wedding coming up I’ll pretty much do anything for whiter teeth, so before forking out stupid money for an in-the-chair session at the dentist, and after seeing the brilliant reviews of MySweetSmile whitening powder, I thought I’d give it a go.

The routine is a cinch: dip a wet toothbrush in the blue powder and you’re off. It was a no-muss, no-fuss process and the powder, thankfully, doesn’t have a strong taste at all to me. Even better, the company is pretty transparent on the ingredients, so you know exactly what you’re putting in your mug.

Reading up on reviews I was amped to see other people see noticeable change after only a few uses. After using it now for two weeks, twice a week, myself I’ve not noticed any *major* changes, perhaps some surface stains – thanks to my love of a coffee – are less noticeable (with my fiance agreeing)… but I’ll persevere with it in the pursuit of pearlier whites.
And maybe cut back on the coffee, too.

WhyMySweetSmile?

Traditional whitening products use a peroxide-based formula that can cause tooth sensitivity and enamel damage. Instead, the brand uses a PAP-based formula in its products including the teeth whitening strips and teeth whitening pen which provides whitening results but without any nasty side effects.

When it comes to MySweetSmile’s teeth whitening powder, it contains the aforementioned Pentasodium Triphosphate, as well as Calcium Carbonate, a gentle ingredient that works to remove plaque, debris, and surface stains to clean the tooth’s surface.

Note: MySweetSmile’s Teeth Whitening Powder is not a direct replacement for toothpaste and has been designed for use before brushing with your regular toothpaste.
