"Every dollar spent is supporting that family who, maybe, is homeless, or it's a single mother with a large family, or it's an elderly individual from the community," said Becca Surges, the director of philanthropy and marketing at St. Vincent de Paul.

Proceeds from St. Vincent de Paul's thrift stores go to supports their Neighbors Helping Neighbors program that goes to homes and helps provide necessities families may be struggling to get. Many times, that comes in the form of a gift certificate to shop at a St. Vincent thrift store.

"Just at our Bradley location here, we have redeemed, or supported, about $80,000 worth of inventory as part of the Neighbors Helping Neighbors program; that's impressive," said Surges.

This weekend, managers at the store promise to fill the shelves with everything available. The event starts at 9 a.m. Thursday and runs through Saturday. There will also be a food truck on site.
